Since emails are not considered legally binding documents like e-signed records, they are accepted as evidence but are not treated as archival records by institutions. However, they are among other types of records that must be transferred to the future. For this reason, emails need to be sent and received using standard protocols.

As with other records, e-mails must be managed in relation to corporate activities and functions. This relationship also means that these documents must be managed within the framework of a classification plan. An electronic archiving package must also be created for e-mails.
