Another type of e-records created in institutions and possessing archival value is social media records. Although these records are prima facie evidence because they are not e-signed, they should be preserved for future reference, as they represent the activities and functions of the institutions. Following an archival appraisal within organizations, the evidentiary value of these records can be strengthened by using tools such as timestamps and organizational seals. Such records should be treated as official records.
The Electronic Archiving Package feature of the Electronic Correspondence Package is required for managing social media records. When doing so, not only posts but also incoming comments and interactions must be recorded. In addition to these, audit logs must be stored until an archival appraisal is performed.
